How did we get that vintage car into Gallery Oldham?
Here at Gallery Oldham we have had an exciting day installing the Rothwell Car in preparation for the Accelerate Festival of Transport this Saturday. This beautiful vintage car can be seen in the foyer of the building where it will be on display for everyone to view.
Rothwell cars were made in Oldham in 1910 and this is believed to be the only surviving car made by the firm. This new donation was delivered on a trailer and carefully manoeuvred into the building by staff. Getting the car into the building drew quite a crowd of onlookers as we hoisted it up the Naked Bean steps and through the cafe to its eventual display space in the foyer.
We are delighted to give this unique item from Oldham’s industrial past a new home where it can be admired by future generations of Oldhamers for years to come.
Come down to Gallery Oldham on Saturday 8 June at 1.30pm to celebrate the return of Oldham’s very own ‘Rothwell Car’ during our first-ever Accelerate Festival of Transport. Events will be going on across Oldham town centre from 11 am – 3pm.
