Museum of the Future
Museum of the Future, a unique new exhibition opening at Gallery Oldham on 28 July, explores the collections of the Gallery and Oldham Local Studies and Archives.
Visitors to the exhibition can find out more about these rich and varied collections and have their say about the ways in which they could be shown and developed in the future.
The collections include historical objects, natural history specimens, photographs, documents and artworks. These tell us about the history of the Oldham area and the natural world around us.
Local groups have been exploring the collections and creating artworks showing some interesting ideas about how they could be developed in the future. These will be on show in the exhibition and there are plenty of different ways for visitors to feedback their own ideas too!
During August an artist in residence will be in the exhibition helping visitors to develop their ideas through a range of creative activities. Drop-in workshops run by the artist will take place 6 – 11, 13 – 18, 20 – 25 and 28 – 31 August and 1 September, 10:30am – 1pm and 2 – 4:30pm each day. These free sessions are suitable for all ages. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
Museum of the Future is on show at Gallery Oldham 28 July – 27 October 2007. The exhibition is funded by Arts Council England North West and Oldham Cultural Partnership.
Gallery Oldham is situated in the Cultural Quarter, Greaves Street, Oldham, OL1 1AL. The Gallery is open Monday – Saturday 10am – 5pm (last admission 4:30pm) and admission is free. For further information call 0161 771 4653 or visit www.galleryoldham.org.uk
