Women of Oldham
12 September 2009 – 10 January 2010

An exhibition that looks at the character, the independence and the achievements of Oldham’s women. It tells the story of local women who have won national fame and recognises the many ways women have contributed to the wealth and growth of the area over the last 200 years.
The displays will use Gallery Oldham’s collections to explore the lives of women such as the suffragette Annie Kenny, the artist Helen Bradley and the local benefactor Dame Sarah Lees. Large objects such as trades union banners and paintings will be displayed alongside personal items, samplers and costume.
If you think you know a typical Oldham woman, think again! From mill-workers to opera singers and from land girls to supermodels there are dozens of stories to be told…
