Super Structures
8 November 2008 – 17 January 2009
“We shape our buildings; thereafter they shape us.” Winston Churchill
Super Structures celebrates the wide range of architecture in the Oldham area. Find out more about some of the patrons and architects who shaped our local environment and discover the fascinating stories behind several landmark buildings.
Using paintings and banners from Gallery Oldham’s collections, the exhibition shows the immense pride local people have taken in some of the area’s architecture. And a wide range of objects, from datestones to ceremonial keys, recalls some local buildings that have since been demolished.
There is also a chance to appreciate some historic structures in three dimensions through several scale models on display.
From terraced houses to timber-framed halls, from Roman forts to towerblocks, which is your favourite local building?
Behind the Scenes tour, linked to the exhibition: Tuesday 18 November, 2pm. Free, but please call 0161 770 4653 to book.
