Will Turner
14 May – 25 June 2005

Will Turner’s northern landscape paintings have been the source of much recent attention. The artist was ‘rediscovered’ in his eighties and his work is now highly respected and sought after.
This exhibition includes oil and watercolour paintings of the varied landscapes of Manchester, Stockport and the north of England, as well as a number of striking figure paintings.
Turner paints with raw energy and presents an uncompromising view of the industrialised landscape and its inhabitants. His work is strongly influenced by Edvard Munch and European Expressionists like Emil Nolde and Chaim Soutine, but is essentially a unique, emotional response to his environment.
Exhibition tours - Thursday 19 May, 12:30pm and Saturday 11 June, 2pm.
Led by Stephen Whittle. Free, no need to book in advance.
