The Fair at Daisy Nook by Helen Bradley

Helen Bradley was one of the most popular artists and storytellers of the 20th century. She was born in Lees, Oldham in 1900 and studied at the Oldham School of Art. However it was not until the 1960s that she began to paint the images of her Edwardian childhood which made her so famous.

Many of these paintings are on show in this exhibition, along with Helen’s own charming stories about the people and places that she remembered. They include scenes in Oldham, Salford, Manchester, Blackpool and Southport.

Visitors can further explore an Edwardian childhood through toys and games from Gallery Oldham’s social history collection, and there will be a family area with activities related to the exhibition.

There will also be a number of paintings from Helen Bradley’s early career on show, featuring landscapes from across the North West of England.
