Sandy Brown
Ritual: The Still Point and the Dance
25 August
- 21 November 2007
Sandy Brown's striking ceramics and paintings combine colourful patterns with quirky shapes. Her vibrant works range from a few centimetres up to a few metres high.
A tea ceremony is constructed in the Gallery, featuring smaller ceramics such as bowls, jugs, dishes and a tea caddy. Sandy trained as a potter in Japan in the early 1970s and the ritual of the Japanese tea ceremony has had a profound influence on her work.
In contrast, dramatic large-scale clay sculptures throughout the Gallery allude to human forms and feature bold colours and patterns. On the surrounding walls, a series of striking acrylic and oil paintings are on show.
Live music from jazz duo String and Bone in the exhibition: Bank Holiday Monday 27 August, 2-3:30pm.
