Oldham New
11 March – 24 June 2006

Oldham New showcases artworks and objects that have been added to Gallery Oldham’s permanent collections in recent years. The exhibition features paintings, ceramics and photography, as well as items donated by the people of Oldham that reflect life in the borough in the last two hundred years.
Highlights include a collection of shells, an elaborate 19th century embroidered sampler, a First World War memorial, works of contemporary art from Bangladesh, and a collection of studio pottery featuring major makers such as Bernard Leach, Lucie Rie and Kate Malone.
Artworks and objects are added to the local history, art and natural history collections by a variety of means; many are donated and others are acquired with grant funding. Come along to Oldham New and find out how we continue to extend our collections and what part you can play.
