Meadowlands
27 May – 2 September 2006

Meadowlands is an ambitious new exhibition by sculptor Ruth Moilliet that looks at the increasing rarity of Britain’s wildflower meadows.
Ruth has worked with the National Wildflower Centre, collecting and studying the flowers and seeds of 23 different wildflowers. These flowers form the basis of a giant installation featuring stunning two metre high glass flower presses with graphics by Ruth taken from her studies of the plants’ intricate structures.
The huge glass presses and panels overlap and the reflections cast by daylight create a mixture of the beautiful colours found in the wildflower meadow.
A number of Ruth’s striking metal flower and seed head sculptures are also on show.
Alongside the Meadowlands exhibition, Gallery Oldham is working with Groundwork, Oldham Countryside Service and local schools and community groups to create wildflower plots in Chadderton, Glodwick, Breezehill, Derker and Sholver.
