Forget-Me-Not:The Language of Flowers

21 May – 4 December

World War 1 embroidered card

Did you know that flowers have a symbolic language? From the purity of the lily to the true love of the forget-me-not you can learn a whole new way to communicate. Looking at the flowers chosen by artists, banner-makers and young girls sewing samplers can be very revealing.

This exhibition brings together items from the Gallery’s fine art, textiles and ceramics collections that use flowers in a range of decorative or imaginative ways. It showcases pressed flowers from the Gallery’s extensive and important herbarium, amazing plant models and fine botanical illustrations from our natural history library.

This family friendly exhibition also explores the fascinating insects that are attracted to flowers. A range of free minibeast activities will “bee” on offer at all times. Come along - it’ll be blooming marvellous!
