This is the first exhibition in Oldham of the SC Turner Collection, recently given to Gallery Oldham by the National Art Collections Fund.
This outstanding collection was formed by Sidney Claridge Turner, and includes work by major 18th and 19th century artists such as the Rev. William Gilpin, Walter Crane and Frederick Lord Leighton, and a large group of studies by Sir Edward Landseer. The subject matter ranges from portraits to landscape and wildlife studies.
It is shown in this exhibition alongside key works from Gallery Oldham’s watercolour collection, including the Charles Lees Collection which includes work by John Constable, JMW Turner, William Holman Hunt, Thomas Girtin, De Wint and Samuel Palmer.
