Birds
6 May – 16 September 2006

This exhibition explores the world of birds and features some of the finest specimens from Gallery Oldham’s natural history collection, alongside paintings and sculpture.
The birds in Gallery Oldham’s natural history collections were collected during the late 19th and early 20th centuries and represent the passion of the time for collecting and preserving natural specimens. The specimens on show includes birds from Britain and further a field.
The exhibition also features work from the Gallery’s art collection, including George Wimpenny’s The Naturalist.
Paintings by the famous natural history artists Archibald Thorburn and Joseph Wolf, on loan from Blackburn Museum and Art Gallery, will also be on show alongside sculptures by Karen Trower and paintings by Adrian Rigby.
