Samantha Bryan: Fairies
6 June – 5 September 2009

Welcome to fairyland. Explore the world of the fairy and find out just what fairies get up to in their everyday lives!
Samantha Bryan’s extraordinary objective is to provide everything a fairy needs to make life a little bit easier. Inspired by children’s stories, Victorian gadgetry and invention, Bryan’s domesticated fairies are intricately sculpted and cleverly crafted.
The exhibition features mounted and free-standing sculptures made of wire, leather, found objects and other collected materials. Sculptures include fairies using inventions such as the fairy dust retrieval system and emergency landing apparatus.
Quirky and magical, Fairies evokes a sense of fantasy and make-believe and is an exhibition to catch everyone’s imagination. Don’t miss the accompanying display of fairytale illustrations including work by Mabel Lucie Atwell, Arthur Ruckham and Walter Crane on loan from Towneley Hall in Burnley.
