An Englishman, a Scotsman and a Tree: Paul Aston and James Castle
18 April – 27 June

A collection of intriguing sculpture by James Castle and Paul Aston.
Castle’s creations have a strong physical presence and are recognisable objects from everyday life such as houses, birds, trees and fish - but that’s where any ordinariness stops! The sculptures sit within strange and unreal contexts, which create tension and a sense of the unknown.
Paul Aston sees his work not as sculpture but as three dimensional paintings. Aston takes his inspiration from aspects of the traditional landscape such as water, flowers and sunsets. His brightly coloured artworks are both labour intensive and impressive in detail. With each one taking up to two years to complete, the finished items often resemble weird creatures from the depths of the sea or a time long ago.
